Online petition to aid and abet Bono no-go

Tuesday, 5 August 2008

A new petition has been crated online with the aim to make U2 frontman Bono retire from public life. The campaign urges the almost omnipotent Irishman to quit as they believe his "philanthropy efforts are self-righteous, ineffective, & counter-productive". Website thepoint.com is calling for pledges which will be donated to a Global Fund to prevent AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, in the event that the campaign is successful. The main argument of the petition's organizer, Aaron With, is that the prominent RED Campaign fronted by Bono has spent more money on marketing than it has raised from product sales. With also accuses Bono of providing patronising lyrics towards the problems faced as a whole by the nations of Africa in the Band Aid fundraising song 'Do They Know It's Christmas'.
